Web browsers and extensions

Web browser recommendations

  • Arc -
  • Microsoft Edge -
  • Brave - This is basically Chrome but with more private defaults and some privacy/security enhancing features. Also has things like built-in IPFS support, Tor window mode, and more.
  • Chrome - Everybody for the most part uses this browser, but there are more private options if that interests you. The most popular browser by far.
  • Firefox - The more private, secure, reliable, robust, and customizable browser
  • LibreWolf - This browser prides itself as a more secure, private, and less "encumbered" version of the Firefox browser. This mostly means that things like automatic updates and autocomplete can't even be used, but this does result in a faster and more secure browsing experience in some cases. Not recommended for less tech savvy users, but an interesting option.
  • Opera GX - The first "gaming" browser. Before you roll your eyes, this browser does have some unique features, such as setting CPU and RAM usage limits, and some nice theming options. Not a bad choice as an alternative browser to use while you are streaming if you have limited resources.
  • Vivaldi -

Browser extensions

  • uBlock Origin - The best content blocker for browsers, hands down. Be sure to whitelist YouTube and Twitch to support your favorite creators.
  • BetterTTV - A ton of really useful Twitch features all wrapped up into one extension. Supports BTTV, FFZ, and 7Z emotes, as well as a ton of other useful features for Twitch.
  • TubeBuddy - The best extension for making your YouTube creator experience better.
  • Dark Reader - Tries to make the entire web dark mode (warning you ahead of time once you install this you'll never uninstall it again).
  • I don't care about cookies - Removes all of those warnings about cookie use on websites.
  • Momentum - Chrome browser new tab page replacement.
  • Honey - Automatically apply coupon codes and discounts online (might use it's own affiliate links, so might bypass when you click a persons affiliate link, or your own. I'm not 100% sure about this, but thought I'd warn you if that matters to you). This has saved me (Turtle) a ton of money!
  • Grammarly - It's like autocorrect but corrects more then spelling. It also corrects grammar, and adjusts the tone of your sentences to match your other surrounding sentences as well. Very useful! Makes you sound much more professional, so can be a good tool for getting jobs or impressing others.
  • Open As Popup (Chromium-based browsers) - Allows you to open up pop-out chat as a pop-up, removing the address bar, taskbar, bookmarks bar, etc. etc. so it’s just chat. Clean look.
  • Chrometana - Redirect requests from Cortana and Bing to somewhere else.
  • Google 'View Image' Button - Bring the 'View Image' button back to Google Images.
  • Speed Dial 2 - Customizable 'new tab' page for Chromium browsers.
  • Twitch Clip Downloader - Don't you make me explain this.
